Nathalie Bernier: Anatomy of a Super Agent

Written by Jed Medina
nathalie-bernier

Regarded as one of modeling world's most important agent and manager, Nathalie Bernier, is someone who knows the models to choose and represent. If other agents claim to have "glimpses" of who might be the next big thing, Nathalie is already grooming the models fashion would be celebrating next season.

From top models Matthew Avedon, Damien Van Zyl, Greg Payne, Carlos Bokelmann to today's most sought-after models Shaun de Wet, Boyd Holbrook, Henry Hargreaves, Eduardo Braun, Jeremy Hassol, Paulo Ferreira, Przemek Schubert and Cullen Barber, it was Bernier who knows how to keep these boys remain competitive and in-demand.

Acting not only as their mentor and agent, Bernier also offered her friendship to her models- cultivating their trust and confidence, in return her models remain loyal to her and are fiercely protective of her well-being.

Described by many as "one stylish, no-nonsense lady", Bernier is credited for making Elite's Mens Division, one of the most successful men's board in the highly competitive NYC modeling market...Modelwatch is proud to feature our Interview with Elite's Nathalie Bernier!

Jed: In your personal perspective, what makes the Men's Division at Elite a unique and different Men's board compared to the many agencies in New York?

Nathalie: As a booker of Elite Model Management, I think we have unique and close relationships with our models, we are not only concerned about developing their modeling careers and giving them an understanding of the business, but we genuinely care about one another.

VNY Models' Lana Winters rocks the NYC modeling scene!

Written by Jed Medina
Lana Winters

Note: One of the Big Apple's most prestigious modeling agencies today is VNY Models. Way back in June 2005, I did an interview with Lana Winters and at that time, her models were already creating a lot of buzz in the industry. After 4 years, VNY is no longer the 'new kid on the block' but a considerable major player in the Big Apple. Looking back, it seems Lana Winters' vision of her agency and her unique ability to represent her models made all the big difference...

Original article starts below...

VNY Models is considered new to the NYC modeling game but has already been gaining a reputation as a force to reckon with. Described as a "small boutique agency with a big heart", the agency is already representing more than 50 models.

The roster includes some of today's rising stars headed by New Zealander Nick Bryant. The agency's top discovery already had Ralph Lauren and John Varvatos on his sleeve and is raring for more. Another top discovery, this time from Canada, is Scott who is fast becoming a favorite among top fashion photographers.

In one of the most difficult episodes of the Big Apple's modeling industry- where top talent managers and agents are leaving the big agencies and settling to establish their own, it seems VNY Models has led the pack and has the driving force to keep its pace and remain there for a long time.

ModelWatch is proud to launch an exclusive agency profile of VNY Models!

Taylor's Tale: DNA Models' Taylor Hendrich speaks to Modelwatch!

Written by Jed Medina
Taylor Hendrich

Before Taylor Hendrich became one of the driving forces behind DNA's Mens Division, he used to be a successful male model- working for Versace, Gianfranco Ferre, Abercrombie and Fitch, the GAP and shooting for such magazines as GQ and Vanity Fair. The transition from modeling to working behind the scenes as a talent manager seems to be a very convenient and practical move- but a transition not everyone is capable of. Looking back, it seems Taylor's move is simply the most logical thing to do.

- - -

It's quite different for someone to handle and represent models by actually being one. Knowing what it feels like a model makes a whole lot of difference. With the range of his experiences in both sides of the fence, having worked with Elite, Ford, APM, Karin, and now DNA, what Taylor says might even change your perspective of fashion and of modeling!

Jed: Having known the "ins and outs" of the modeling world, which would you prefer doing, being a model or working as a talent manager? What would you consider the advantages and disadvantages of these two different yet compatible professions?

Taylor: I have found both to be very different from each other. As a model I loved traveling and meeting with many different types of people and seeing the many different cultures and countries around the world. As an agent I find that I'm respected and more understood as a professional.

Today I prefer to be an agent! It is not easy being a model because they are only respected based on the work they do. Models tend to get a bad rap about not being to smart but yet another pretty face. I think this is hard on the psyche! Also you can never understand why one works or does not work. Especially in today's market! Sometimes I find it being luck of the draw.

Page Parkes: The Prestige and the History

Written by Jed Medina
page-parkes

With more than 20 years of experience in the modeling industry, Page Parkes is a name synonymous to prestige, professionalism and quality management. This long history enables the agency to deal quite easily with problems facing its operations, the models it represent as well as its employees. Page Parkes has established this impeccable reputation thru the partnership of Page Parkes- Eveleth and Rachel Duran.

At the very least, once a year Page Parkes-Eveleth personally invites the most powerful & trusted model agents in the fashion industry. The agency's models were given their first shot for fame & glory.

With an 85% call-back ratio on both fashion & commercial agents' reviews, Page Parkes leads the way among America's reputable agencies in this important area of model management.

Interview with Page Parkes Eveleth

"Dealing with people in this industry takes having an outgoing personality and the passion of listening and understanding." stated Page in an exclusive interview with ModelWatch.

The Page Parkes team is one of the most efficient and perhaps the friendliest of the agencies based in the United States. ModelWatch asked for a personal note from one of its agents to say something about Page Parkes...

Page Parkes-Eveleth is one of the most fascinating women I know. I met Page when I was only twelve and she guided my modeling career with trust, honesty, and strength, and now I have been an agent for her for seven years. Page truly loves her work and treats her models as if they were her own. I have never known anyone with such ethics and I am proud to call her "boss" and a forever friend.
