London based conceptual design duo Komakino, Jin Kim from Korea and Federico Capalbo from Italy, launched their latest Menswear collection at London Fashion Week.

Reports Sally Mumby-Croft:

Autumn Winter 10 appeared to be garments for the restless designed by slightly angry designers, upon arrival the viewer was greeted with a press release bordering on a strop as Komakino laid out the accusations that their designs are irrelevant.

Their answer was to produce a collection which seethed down the catwalk, the models were angry young men with dip dyed hair scowling as they swept past the audience. A sinister show, the feeling of unease emphatically encouraged through the choice of track. [ read more ]

Runway Report: Jaiden rVa James' Fall Winter 2010-2011 Collection [ Video clip full show + Photos ]

Written by Jed Medina

Jaiden rVa James show during London Fashion Week is bizaare, intense, dark, hypnotic! Take a look:

Says Tim Blanks:

And it wouldn’t be London if there wasn’t at least one intensely polarizing presentation. Rasharn d’Vera Agymang and Jaiden James are buoyant twentysomethings who make clothes that are anything but upbeat. With Mad Max apocalypse and Mapplethorpe’s X Portfolio in mind, they produced a collection of fetish leathers that was numbingly literal. Meanwhile, Re:Bel, the magazine they make together, was being distributed outside in the courtyard of Somerset House. It’s an impressive feat, a manifesto that rebuts the bloggy brevity their peers opt for. In fact, Re:Bel looks so substantial that it made the clothes feel like an afterthought. But, from Karl Marx to Malcolm Maclaren, London has always been the city that is kindest to manifestos. [ read more ]

Says the designer himself:

I design for the cult Menswear label Jaiden rVa James which i co-founded with Rasharn Agymang. I enjoy giving my views on fashion and life in london. I love everything that culture has to offer from music, art, amp; fashion & film. What is life without Art,Music & Fashion they help remove the mundane trappings of everyday life.

Runway Report: Katie Eary's Fall Winter 2010-2011 Collection [ Video clip full show + Photos ]

Written by Jed Medina

Says a fan on Katie Eary's latest collection:

Seriosuly guys! What is she! Her last two collections literally had me vibrating in my chair. And this collection had liquids falling from my mouth! This is serious stuff! [ read more ]

Ganymede Kids has this to say:

Katie Eary is a London-based menswear designer who graduated from the Royal College of Art MA program in 2008 and has since found fans in Lady Gaga, Kate Moss and Roisin Murphy. Though she designs menswear, most of the pieces are really versatile and could be worn by a man or a woman, providing they're capable of pulling off Eary's bizarre and often horror-esque aesthetic of course. I can't see myself wearing any of these outfits as presented on the runway really (maybe some of the pants and boots) but they're all definitely interesting and the bold accessories present a really creative styling aspect that I love to see incorporated into shows. [ read more ]

I agree that some of the outfits are simply impossible to wear, but the whole collection is so interesting, I forgot whether they are wearable or not. Just the thrill of looking closely at the design details are more than enough for me.

Watch the show and browse some very cool, weird, interesting and inspiring outfits after the jump!

Countdown to the Top 50 All-Time List: What's so special about BAPTISTE GIABICONI?

Written by Jed Medina

I know.... It's kinda unfair to be too critical about Baptiste Giabiconi and his top ranking at models.com... I really disagree with such gusto that perhaps I failed to see he's really awesome after all... right?

[ Baptiste Giabiconi appearing in Chanel S/S 2010-2011 collection in Paris ]

Why would MDC say something like:

With the male modeling industry facing a scarcity of long-term support on the part of clients for new and emerging faces, sifting through the blue chip SS/FW 09 campaigns to find a new heir apparent was no easy task. And then there came Karl Lagerfeld to the rescue as the last star-maker on the market ready to sweep a chosen male face to the heights of mass media exposure, multiple campaigns and guaranteed A-list editorial positioning. It’s a part of the game of fashion and now Mr Baptiste stands as the new No 1 on MDC Top 50 male models ranking with full buzz, the blazing spotlight and crackling controversy.

... and for Giabiconi to receive such superlatives...:

When Naomi Campbell met Baptiste in Moscow in 2009, she told him, “It’s not right: We all have defects. You have none.”  In an interview with WWD Karl Lagerfeld described Baptiste as “a boy version of Gisele [Bündchen]: skinny, skinny but with an athletic body — good for clothes and great with no clothes.”

Is he really perfect? I mean, Tyson Ballou appears to be perfect too, and so is Ivan de Pineda and Sean O'Pry and Matthias Lauridsen...

Runway Report: Carolyn Massey's Fall Winter 2010-2011 Collection [ Video clip full show + Photos ]

Written by Jed Medina

Carolyn Massey's design philosophy and rising popularity in fashion are something I wanted to get into more than anything else. After watching previous collections, I just think the latest ought to be considered as perhaps her best yet...

[ Click on any image to view | Photos from Day Life ]

Says the designer:

My work is always a continuing work in progress, it grows and expands with each season but yes, it was this encounter with the donor... well, actually it's an organisation. Due to my passion for reviving things from the past and bringing them in to a more contemporary light they saw that and wanted to help me and hence the donation of the patterns. We started working on them really, really quickly, toiling them up and creating looks we could experiment with. Some were awful and I always think that you have to be extremely careful when you are looking backwards to go forwards. As I've not been going sixty years and don't have an archive of my own, I am drawing on a archive of what I know. [ read more ]

Runway Report: JW Anderson's Fall Winter 2010-2011 Collection [ Video clip full show + Photos ]

Written by Jed Medina

I'm not supposed to talk about models when it comes to runway reports, but Kirill Vasilev and Danny Arter both made such impressions that I have to mention them. Vasilev and Arter rock! Johannes Lindner (shown below), Jacob Coupe and Gordie Walker also deserve mention!

http://model-max.com/v1/images/stories/runways/london-fw2010/jwanderson1b.jpg

At which collection you might asked?

J.W. Anderson shows off his men's collection for Autumn/Winter 2010 at the recent London Fashion week and well, I'm so impressed, I have to watch the video thrice! You need to look closely at the shoes!

I just think it was inspired by one of my favorite films, C.R.A.Z.Y. starring Marc Andre Grondin (he's called the Gael Garcia Bernal of Canada). It must be the music and Grondin's look if you're to ask me why...

Runway Report: Topman's Fall Winter 2010-2011 Collection [ Video clip full show + Photos ]

Written by Jed Medina

There is a bit of a 'military' look and some 'punk rock' appeal in the latest Topman collection, their first stand-alone show at London Fashion Week, previewing their Autumn Winter 2010 collection.

[ Click on any image to view | Photos from Day Life ]

While it is not Burberry "with a twist" or even inspired by some other brands reminiscent of the recent Milan-Paris fashion weeks, Topman was able to deliver it's unique take on the latest in fashion as only their popular brand can deliver. The burgundy and brown colors are tops!
