Experimental Film (7)

Experimental film or experimental cinema describes a range of filmmaking styles that are generally quite different from, and often opposed to, the practices of mainstream commercial and documentary filmmaking. "Avant-garde" is also used to describe this work, and "underground" has been used in the past, though it has also had other connotations. While "experimental" covers a wide range of practice, an "experimental film" is often characterized by the absence of linear narrative, the use of various abstracting techniques (out of focus, painting or scratching on film, rapid editing), the use of asynchronous (non-diegetic) sound or even the absence of any sound track. The goal is often to place the viewer in a more active and more thoughtful relationship to the film. [ from the wiki ]

Video Clip: Simple Present - Future Perfect

Written by Jed Medina
Runner Up in the Audience Award category of the Metropolis Art Prize 2009.

The camera slowly moves in the course of time describing, in a Magritte way, several heterogeneous urban landscapes. The double narrative register allows an accurate description of the environment and its temporal evolution. The gaze is wondering about the metropolis destiny.

Artist: Davide Pepe.

Experimental video made in one shot in my living room, objects and memories playing with their own shadows just moving on the frame of my subconscious awaken dream... Every object threw their symbolic keep inside them a part of their history, crystallising moments and thoughts, related to moment of my life...
Maybe too simple or too complex, dreaming in my blurry thoughts...

The sound is the cherry blues projects its atmosphere match perfectly to the video...

Stunning visual work! I'll let the clip speaks for itself... Enjoy!
About the clip: Metamorphosis is programmed entirely in Processing, it's the follow up to my Music is Math video. I developed my 'zeno' animation system a bit more to allow for nebulous additive blending as well as a few other things. The music is by Boards of Canada again - the track 'Corsair' from the Geogaddi album. Further info on this video at butterfly.ie
